When I started Made of Hands, I didn’t think explicitly about Diwali gifting. But our customers figured it out before I did. They started ordering our crochet keychains and hair accessories and soft toys as Diwali gifts — because they were looking for the same thing I was looking for as a child behind my mother, watching the sparklers from a safe distance. Something real. Something made. Something that said I thought about you instead of I fulfilled an obligation.
